Latin American Patron Award 2022
The Jorge M. Pérez Family Foundation, in which he participates along with his wife Darlene and their children, sponsors numerous cultural programs for the promotion of the arts, such as the creation of Espacio 23, focused on the diffusion of Latin American and Afro-American artists.
In 2020, during the week of ARCO, and as a way to continue fostering dialogue between brotherly peoples, the Museo Nacional de Arte Reina Sofía announced the donation by the collector of 12 works by Latin American artists and an economic amount directed to the acquisition of works by Spanish and Latin American artists. That same year, during the pandemic, the family foundation donated more than $20M in aid to the artist community.
Jorge Perez was also the first Hispanic millionaire to belong to the Giving Pledge, a philanthropic initiative whose members pledge to donate 50% of their fortune to philanthropic purposes after their death.
In his own words: “Miami, which is the capital of the Americas, should have a great collection of Latin American art. And it was important for me, as a Hispanic person, to take philanthropic leadership and give back to society the much that I have received.”
