Esther Koplowitz
Spanish Patron Award 2020
Esther Koplowitz is a prominent businesswoman who performs an exceptional solidary work supporting the most disadvantaged sectors of society while also undertaking important art patronage initiatives.
In this last sector, her passion for Sorolla has made possible that three main artworks of the painter that were outside of Spain returned. Through her own foundation, she has taken part in relevant actions such as the restoration of the Abbey of Santo Domingo of Silos or the Parish of San Ginés, to name an example.
The relationship between Spain and Ibero-America occupies a prominent place in her private art collection. Her Novohispano art pieces, from the conquest, show this. The Tables of the Mexican Conquest are considered one of the most precious pieces for their exceptional quality and soon they will be loaned for a public exhibition at the Hispanoamerican Museum.
Her American religious art collection is also noteworthy, among which they stand out the representations of the Virgin of Guadalupe: one of them is a beautiful and singular anonymous copper blade and a second one signed and dated by Juan Correa, one of the main Novohispano painters from the last decades of the XVIIth century.
